Spinnova gets the unique opportunity to connect to manufacturers, brands and investors capable of helping them fast-track the implementation and adoption of their daring innovation. They will be supported for a period of 18 months, with clear and jointly defined milestones on a roadmap to scale.
The Scaling Programme of Fashion for Good now consists of nine innovative participants who are ready to revolutionize the industry: ColorZen, The Infinited Fiber Company, Softwear Automation Inc, Tamicare, Worn Again, Ambercycle, bext360 and Tyton Biosciences.
Spinnova has developed a disruptive cellulose fibre innovation that involves no dissolving or other complex chemical processes. This fibre has a uniquely small footprint and presents exciting opportunities to create a circular fibre production system. Based in Finland, Spinnova is poised to reach industrial scale by year-end through their new pilot factory. Future business models include partnering with brands by licensing the technology or setting up joint ventures for fibre production.
CEO of Spinnova Janne Poranen: “We have a fantastic relationship with Fashion for Good and are very much looking forward to the programme. Working with brands and developing the fibre to suit specific applications is the way we have strategically chosen to commercialize our innovation.”
As a Scaling Programme participant, Spinnova gains access to Fashion for Good’s network of corporate partners, business advisors and industry experts, enabling it to accelerate the development and adoption of its revolutionary fibre.
About Fashion for Good
Fashion for Good is the global initiative that is here to make all fashion good. It’s a global platform for innovation, made possible through collaboration and community. With an open invitation to the entire apparel industry, Fashion for Good convenes brands, producers, retailers, suppliers, non-profit organisations, innovators and funders united in their shared ambition.
At the core of Fashion for Good is our innovation platform. Through our Fashion for Good-Plug and Play Accelerator, we give promising start-up innovators the expertise and access to funding they need in order to grow. Our Scaling Programme supports innovations that have passed the proof-of-concept phase, with a dedicated team that offers bespoke support and access to expertise, customers and capital. Both the Accelerator and Scaling programmes have in total supported more than 40 start-ups to date. The third element of the innovation platform is the Good Fashion Fund, that will catalyse access to finance to shift at scale to more sustainable production methods.
The international organisation – founded by C&A Foundation in March 2017 – now has 8 corporate partners, organised over 360 one-on-one introductory sessions between innovators and corporate brands, unlocked significant investments for start-ups, and has seen multiple production pilots come to life.
Fashion for Good also acts as a convener for change. From its hub in Amsterdam, it houses a Circular Apparel Community co-working space, creates open-source resources like its Good Fashion Guide about cradle-to-cradle clothing. Fashion for Good welcomes visitors to the Experience, where they can join a collective movement to make fashion a force for good. In October 2018 the Experience will reopen as the world’s first interactive tech museum dedicated to sustainable fashion innovation.
Fashion for Good’s programmes are supported by corporate partners adidas, C&A, Galeries Lafayette Group, Kering, PVH, Target, Zalando, as well as organisations including the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, IDH – the Sustainable Trade Initiative, Impact Hub Amsterdam, McDonough Innovation, Plug and Play and the Sustainable Apparel Coalition.

Today, Fashion for Good launches the Sorting for Circularity USA Project, a new initiative focused on the North-American textile-to-textile recycling market that will provide the most representative snapshot of textile waste composition generated in the United States. This effort is crucial to understanding and evaluating the business case for textile-to-textile recycling, ensuring that used textiles move to their best and highest end use. The results of this 18-month project will inform decisions to unlock necessary investments and actions to scale collection, sorting and recycling innovations.
