AMSTERDAM– Fashion for Good, a global initiative to make all fashion good, and ColorZen, the New York-based textile dyeing innovator, have announced their partnership to drive sustainable change that is accessible, affordable and attractive. This collaboration, through Fashion for Good’s Scaling Programme, demonstrates a shared commitment between ColorZen and Fashion for Good to fast-track sustainable innovation within the apparel supply chain.

Fashion for Good, an initiative launched with an initial grant by founding partner C&A Foundation, convenes brands, producers, retailers, suppliers, non-profit organisations, innovators, and funders united in their shared ambition to reimagine the way fashion is designed, made, worn, and reused. Its Scaling Programme helps companies expand their business quickly by offering bespoke support and access to expertise, customers, and capital. Fashion for Good hand-selected ColorZen in 2017 from an extensive list of innovators in the sustainable and circular textiles sector. ColorZen is among a small group of companies selected that includes TamiCare Ltd, SoftWear Automation, Worn Again, and The Infinited Fiber Company.

ColorZen® is a breakthrough technology that transforms the cotton dyeing process, making it significantly more efficient and environmentally friendly. Cotton is the most popular fabric on the planet, and once treated by ColorZen, it can be dyed using far less water, energy, dye, salt, and toxic chemicals, thus revolutionizing the global cotton dyeing industry. ColorZen is on a scaling path to treat hundreds of millions of pounds of cotton and potentially billions of garments over the next few years. Fashion for Good is supporting ColorZen in its engagement with high volume, sustainability-focused brands at the leading edge of innovation and speed to market.

“ColorZen has created a holistic and sustainable solution for cotton dyeing, one of the most inefficient and environmentally problematic links in the textile supply chain today. In doing so, we have also given the industry a remarkable new innovation that allows for both beautiful new design, as well as rapid speed to market. The confluence of mission and values between Fashion for Good and ColorZen is striking”, says Michael Harari, CEO of ColorZen. “We have been working hard for several years to improve the environmental profile of the textile dyeing sector—historically a notable sustainability blind spot for the fashion industry. We thus find it particularly exciting to collaborate with Fashion for Good and their mission to prioritize work in this specific part of the fashion supply chain”.

As a Scaling Programme participant, ColorZen has access to a network of business advisors and industry experts, enabling it to accelerate the development and adoption of its revolutionary technology with some of the biggest brands and mills in the world.

At the core of Fashion for Good is an Innovation Platform, which includes:

  • Scaling Programme: Fashion for Good finds innovations that have proof-of-concept and helps them scale by offering bespoke support and access to expertise, customers and capital.
  • Good Fashion Fund: This fund will catalyze access to finance where this is required to shift at scale to more sustainable production methods.

Fashion for Good is founded on the principle of collaboration and aims to create tools that are open-source, such as its Good Fashion Guide, which provides practical tips for brands wishing to embrace circular apparel principles. It operates from its first hub in Amsterdam, which also houses a Circular Apparel Community co-working space and a visitor-facing exhibition. www.fashionforgood.com
