POSITION SUMMARY & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Within a short timeframe of less than 2 years, Fashion for Good has established itself as the go-to platform for sustainable fashion innovation on a global level. As we are entering our next phase of growth, we seek a Manager who will be in charge of the Fashion for Good Innovation Platform offerings, focus Scaling programme, in areas of dyeing, processing, Cut-make trim, transparency and traceability, end of use and circular business models. You will manage scouting, assessing and supporting sustainable technological innovations that will have an impact at scale in the global footwear and apparel supply chain. You will also be responsible for building relationships with brands, retailers and manufacturers in order to drive pilots and implementation at scale. The Innovation manager will be part of the Fashion for Good innovation team.

As part of this, the innovation manger is responsible for the following areas:

Research and Landscaping

  • Performs desk research and building networks with experts as well as leading other activities – such as convenings or roundtables – that build the understanding of the key innovation areas (with a focus on processing, cut-make-trim, transparency and traceability solutions) by Fashion for Good as well as its brand, retailing and manufacturing partners
  • Act as Fashion for Good’s subject matter expert for selected innovation areas, and maintain the dialogue with the relevant experts in Fashion for Good’s brand, retailing and manufacturing partners
  • Assess and document existing, more mature solutions, gaps and best practices implemented

Scouting and screening

  • Scout, screen and perform in-depth due diligence (together with technical experts) on innovators (start-ups) for Fashion for Good’s Accelerator and Scaling programmes
  • Monitor and attend topic related events
  • Establish and manage relationships with key technology and research institutions around the world (e.g. academia, multi-stakeholder organisations, governments, incubators) to support innovation and best-practice scouting efforts

Pilot planning, roadmap to scale and relationship management

  • Develop and execute roadmaps to scale up the innovations in the current portfolio of the Fashion for Good Scaling Programme as well as new entries. These roadmaps outline the areas for support by Fashion for Good, such as unlocking access to capital, providing relevant expertise and linking to market(s) through partnerships with Fashion for Good’s brand, retailing and manufacturing partners. S/He orchestrates all of the actions needed to implement the roadmap
  • Drive pilot implementation projects
  • Build relationships with brands and manufacturers to further strengthen Fashion for Good’s partnership group

Thought-leadership and impact measurement

  • Build Fashion for Good’s presence as a thought leader in the area of sustainable innovation in processing, cut-make-trim, transparency and traceability through events and publication contributions
  • Conduct ongoing impact measurement and collation tasks relating to the sustainability and social impact of innovators in Fashion for Good’s programme

Team leadership and milestone management Innovation platform

  • Manage a team of Innovation analysts and guide them in their research, scouting and screening activities
  • Develop annual timeline and milestones, prepare decision-making meetings (Innovation Committee, Scaling workshop) and drive Innovation-related elements of Fashion for Good gatherings and events
  • Drive strategic planning and program evolution of the Fashion for Good Innovation Platform

The Innovation Manager plays a bridging function between innovators, Fashion for Good’s partners (brands, retailers and manufacturers), investors/financiers, and NGOs. S/He is also responsible for building and maintaining an active innovator alumni network.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate has a relevant track record and combines strong interpersonal skills with a self-starting, pro-active attitude. The following qualifications are essential:

  • Demonstrated project management, analytical and research skills
  • Capacity to adapt to different work environments, easily navigating different cultures and organisation settings
  • Capacity to navigate, work together with and mobilise large, global corporate organisations
  • Strong relationship management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication as well as presentation skills
  • Creative thinking with the ability for sound judgement and accountability
  • Pro-activeness, enthusiasm, can-do attitude, comfort in dealing with uncertainty

The following experience is a plus: relevant work experience (+5 years) in e.g. management consulting, sustainability, the apparel or footwear industry – preferably with a supply chain connection, an entrepreneurial / start-up setting.

EDUCATION

Academic degree (MBA or Masters) preferably within business, economics, material science, chemistry or textile engineering.

LANGUAGES

Proficiency in English is a requirement.
