AMSTERDAM- This November, Fashion for Good is partnering with Redress, the Hong Kong-based NGO working to cut waste out of fashion, for a special exhibition showcasing select pieces from their EcoChic Design Award 2017 finalists’ collections. The exhibition will be held at Fashion for Good from 2- 23 November and entrance is open to all.

The EcoChic Design Award is the world’s largest sustainable fashion competition. This year’s competition drew applications from 46 countries and culminated in a runway finale in Hong Kong highlighting a growing pool of emerging design talent, committed to transforming the fashion industry – which produces an estimated 92 million tons of textile waste every year.

The 10 designers, who hail from Asia, Europe and the USA, include Amsterdam based Dutch finalist Joëlle van de Pavert, who applied the techniques of zero-waste, reconstruction and up-cycling to a range of waste textiles that include textile swatches and secondhand clothing. Jöelle’s work is driven by her self-proclaimed over-consumption habits of the past. She hopes to inspire behavioural change through her own exploration with textile waste.

Other designs incorporate waste from a variety of sources including bridal wear offcuts mixed with military uniforms to abandoned umbrellas, secondhand kimonos and damaged yarns.
